Once flip-flops would be viewed with derision, as they were considered as casual, pieces of footwear that could only be worn to certain casual places such as beaches or garden parties, at best. Many of us can still recall the commotion that was kicked up when a few members of the North-western Women’s Lacrosse team appeared at an official White House reception in thong sandals which critics derisively called them ‘flip-flops’. Now, that was just as 2005, but the humble flip-flop has come a long way since then. This piece and others that follow are to show how flip-flops are not only respectable, but favored footwear for many formal ceremonies, like weddings. 

Humble origins

In truth flip-flops have originally not been seen in an elevated position. This maybe as flip-flops are a type of thong sandal (though not the only kind) usually constructed out of rubber, which is not a very chique material, don’t you think? But, there are also several very stylish thong sandals, which aren’t labeled flip-flops. By definition, so, flip-flops are a non-formal, slightly derided sandals that are easy to get on and off, and easy to carry.

On bridal demand

However, flip-flops are among the most popular foot attire today, and not just with the trendy people who wish to dress unconventionally. So much so that proof of the increasing respectability of these sandals is their favoritism as bridal foot attire. A lot of women who have suffered through a conventional wedding will testify to the hours of excruciating suffering that a bride must go through in her stylish, traditional, shiny bridal pumps or agonizing stilettos. Not only must she socialize with these on, but she must also smile through it all. It is not a wonder, then, that brides have welcomed the idea of having flip-flops to their wedding ceremonies with a flair, especially if the wedding in question is not exactly the walking down the aisle type.

Universal access

That is not to express that casual sandals should be unwelcome at a church ceremony, however it is true that bridal flip-flops are more popular for a beach wedding, maybe, or a garden wedding. But to whichever type of wedding {ceremony} venue they are used, flip-flops nearly always create a spontaneous atmosphere that encourages participants to relax and enjoy the wedding nuptials. In keeping with their desirability in weddings, bridal flip-flops are now available in more fashionable avatars, which means they can easily be worn to church weddings, no worries at all. So if you are in the market bridal foot attire, do not be at all surprised if the outlet employee suggests casual sandals set with gem stones, or decorated with sequins or beads. 

Price rules

Possibly the number one thing about casual sandals, wedding or otherwise, is their ridiculously low price range. In fact, you can buy rubber flip-flops for as low as one dollar, though you could want to spend a bit more than that on your wedding pair. In that case, you might have to spend all of five dollars at most. Inevitably, as quickly as designers realize a good thing, its price increases, so you can really splurge on a pair of designer flip-flops, although it is purely a matter of personal choice.
